Nursing Internship Experience in Kuujjuaq

UTHC had the pleasure of welcoming five nursing students from Cégep Garneau during the month of January.

From January 4 to 26, 2026, the UTHC had the pleasure of welcoming five Nursing students from Cégep Garneau : Léane Bégin, Madison Authier, Mya Monger, Thomas Henry, and Charlotte Novello, accompanied by their instructor, Cynthia Legault, as part of a credited intercultural internship.

Integrated into the care teams, the students actively participated in a wide range of clinical activities, both at the clinic and in the chronic care sector. They were involved in patient assessments, medication administration, wound care, and follow-up care. They also experienced the highly impactful medical evacuations by air, which allowed them to better understand the northern reality, as well as the versatility and essential role of nurses in the North.

Beyond clinical learning, this internship offered a unique human and cultural immersion at the heart of northern life. The students leave with a deeper understanding of the challenges related to delivering healthcare in our communities, along with strong values of adaptability, respect, openness, and commitment.

We would like to warmly thank the students and their instructor for their presence, professionalism, and genuine interest in our healthcare setting.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all UTHC staff members for their warm welcome, generosity, and contribution to making this a truly enriching experience.

Cynthia Legault, Nursing Professor
Cégep Garneau

"A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the healthcare staff and teams at UTHC for their exceptional welcome, kindness, generosity, and trust in the group. The time devoted to teaching, sharing knowledge, providing support in complex care situations, and demonstrating humanity on a daily basis deeply touched the students and their professor. The passion that drives each member of UTHC is evident in every action they take and contributes to making this environment a place of care marked by respect and compassion."
